Twitter Account for Bad Parkers in Edmonton
Posted February 12th 2015
If you have ever been forced to park farther away from your destination than you would like because someone else has managed to take up three parking spaces with one vehicle, you can probably commiserate with Brian LaBelle. LaBelle is the man behind a new Twitter account that is putting bad parkers in Edmonton on notice by publicly shaming them. YEGs Worst Parking showcases snapshots sent of some of the worst offenders around Edmonton.
LaBelle has stated that he sees such public sharing as a type of public service. At the same time, the account provides people with an outlet to vent the frustrations that often stem from people who either feel entitled to take up too many parking spots or simply have bad driving habits. Since the account was launched, it has gained more than 3,000 followers. After Calgarians displayed interest, LaBelle was quick to start an account in Calgary. He has since also started an account in Vancouver. While LaBelle has stated that he doesn't think he will change the world, he does hope it will have an impact by at least making others aware of the potentially bad parking habits they may have and the consequences that can result. Such consequences can include potential vehicle damage and the inability of parents to place their young children in the backseat when another car is parked too close.
Oftentimes, there is perhaps a thought that since they only intend to be a minute, parking improperly will not be a problem. With the release of the new Twitter account, bad parkers will need to learn to stay in one stall and between the lines or run the risk of being outed online.
