Car Maintenance You Can Perform On Your Own

Posted December 18th 2014

Even though cars are evolving constantly and even the simplest car maintenance tasks are becoming complex, there are still some things you can do on your own. If you want to save some money on the maintenance of your vehicle, you should take on these tasks yourself. Let's look at simple car maintenance you can perform on your own:

Oil Change

The easiest car maintenance you can do is change the engine oil. However, there are certain car models that have made this task quite complicated. Therefore, you should check the car's manual before you decide to take on this task. If you have an older vehicle, you will find a drain valve at the bottom. You will need to drain the oil and then close the drain valve. Once the valve is shut, you will need to put new oil into the engine. But if you are not able to find the drain valve of the valve to put in new oil, you should not try to change the oil and should seek help from an Edmonton car maintenance shop.

Replacing Headlamp Bulbs

The headlamp bulbs are extremely easy to replace. But then again, it depends on the car model. If your car is a new model with projection type or guidance headlamps, this is one task better left to a professional. These headlamps use a different technology and you may not be able to replace the bulb on your own. At times, you may even require special tools to perform this otherwise simple car maintenance task.

Air Filter Replacement Is the Easiest Car Maintenance Check

Replacing the air filter is actually something you can do on your own regardless of the car you have. In newer vehicles, the filter is different. You will need to look for a box that has a clip on it. Once you remove the clip, the filter will then be exposed. You will need to remove the old filter and insert a new one. Be sure to get the correct model for your car or the engine to make sure you get the right filter type.

If you have even the basic knowledge about vehicle maintenance, you should be able to perform these tasks yourself. If not, you can always get help from a professional.
